Thus, the word originally describes the cavity in the skull which encloses and protects the eyeball. Cf., however, also †ḥaǧǧara, vb. II, ʻto be(come) surrounded by a thin line, a halo in the clouds (the moon); to burn a mark round the eye of the camel with a circular cauterizing instrument’ (Lane ii, BK1860).
