لأنّه سيكون ثانوياً إزاء مرمی الرواية الأساسي ، ألا وهو درس أشخاصه وتشريح نفوسهم (ي) وتحليل أفكارهم ، 
li-ʔanna-hū sa-yakūnu ṯānawiyyan ʔizāʔa marmà ’l-riwāyaẗ al-ʔasāsī, ʔillā wa-huwa darasa ʔašḫāṣa-hū wa-tašrīḥ nufūsi-him wa-taḥlīl ʔafkāri-him, 
because this is secondary to the story’s essential objective – isn’t this the study of his characters, the dissection of their innermost feelings and [p. x] the analysis of their thoughts?
