111. MENTEM INTERROGANDAM ESSE DE OMNI UERITATE.

Quisquis profunda mente uestigat uerum.

Animumque doceat quidquid extra molitur
Suis retrusum possidere thesauris.

Animumque doceat . possidere retrusum . suis thesauris . quicquid extra molitur . i. rimatur.

Quiconques encerche verité par pensee parfonde et ne veult estre deceuz par nulles desvoiabletéz, reflechisse et retourt en soi meismes la clarté des yeulz de son cuer par dedens et restraingne en reflechissant entour son cuer les lons mouvemcns de ses pensees, et enseigne a son courage a cognoistre que il tient repost en ses tresors tout quenque il quiert dehors. 
Who-so that seketh sooth by a deep thought, and coveiteth nat to ben deceived by no mis-weyes, lat him rollen and trenden with-inne him-self the light of his inward sighte; and lat him gadere ayein, enclyninge in-to a compas, the longe moevinges of his thoughtes; and lat him techen his corage that he hath enclosed and hid in his tresors, al that he compasseth or seketh fro with-oute.

For certes the body, bringinge the weighte of foryetinge, ne hath nat chased out of your thoughte al the cleernesse of your knowinge;

Certainement la semence de verité se tient et ahert dedens vostre courage et est esmeue et esveilliee par le vent et par les souffles de doctrine. 
for certeinly the seed of sooth haldeth and clyveth with-in your corage, and it is awaked and excyted by the winde and by the blastes of doctrine. 
Nam cur rogati sponte recta censetis,
Ni mersus alto uiueret fomes corde?
Quod si Platonis Musa personat uerum,
Quod quisque discit immemor recordatur.”

Car pour quoy jugiéz vous de vostre gré les drois a ceulz qui les vous demandent ? Certez ce ne feissiéz vous pas, se li norrissemens et la force de raison ne vesquist plungiee en la parfondece de vostre cuer. Et se la doctrine de Platon nous chante verité, tout quenque chascun aprent, il ne le fait fors que recorder, si comme on recorde les chosez oublieez. 
For wherfor elles demen ye of your owne wil the rightes, whan ye ben axed , but-yif so were that the norisshingeof resoun ne livede y-plounged in the depthe of your herte? this is to seyn, how sholden men demen the sooth of any thing that wereaxed , yif ther nere a rote of soothfastnesse that30were y-plounged and hid innaturelprinciples, the whiche soothfastnesse lived with-in the deepnesse of the thought. And yif so be that the Muse and the doctrine of Plato singeth sooth, al that[ ] every wight lerneth, he ne doth no-thing elles thanne but recordeth, as men recorden thinges that ben foryeten.’
