BERNICK.
Ha! – also – vergebens – Er geht rasch nach seinem Zimmer, reißt die Tür auf und ruft hinein: Krap, halten Sie »Indian Girl« auf; es darf heute nicht in See!

BERNICK.
Ah! Then it is all in vain-- (Goes hurriedly to the door of his room, opens it and calls in.) Krap, stop the “Indian Girl”--she must not sail tonight!

博尼克
啊!这么说都是白操心--(慌忙跑到办公室门口，把门使劲拉开，朝着里头喊)克拉普，赶紧截住“印第安少女”号!今晚别让它开出去!

„Indian Girl“ står alt tilhavs, herr konsul.

KRAP
von drinnen.
»Indian Girl« ist schon auf See, Herr Konsul.

KRAP
(from within).
The “Indian Girl” is already standing out to sea, Mr. Bernick.

KONSUL BERNICK
(lukker døren og siger mat).
Forsent, – og uden nytte –

BERNICK
schließt die Tür und sagt matt:
Zu spät, – und zwecklos –

BERNICK
(shutting the door and speaking faintly).
Too late--and all to no purpose--

(关门，低声说)
来不及了--一切都是白操心--

FRØKEN HESSEL.
Hvad mener du?

LONA.
Was meinst Du?

LONA.
What do you mean?

KONSUL BERNICK.
Intet, intet. Vig fra mig –!

BERNICK.
Nichts, nichts! Laß mich –

BERNICK.
Nothing, nothing. Leave me alone!

博尼克
没什么，没什么!别管我的事!

FRØKEN HESSEL.
Hm; se her, Karsten. Johan lader dig sige, at han betror til mig det navn og rygte, han engang lånte dig, og ligeså det, du raned fra ham, da han var borte. Johan tier; og jeg kan gøre og lade i den sag, hvad jeg vil. Se, her holder jeg dine to breve i min hånd.

LONA.
Hm. Sieh her, Karsten! Johann läßt Dir sagen, daß er den Ruf und den Namen in meine Hände legt, den er Dir einmal geliehen hat, und auch den guten Namen, den Du ihm genommen hast, als er fort war. Johann schweigt; und ich kann in der Sache tun und lassen, was ich will. Sieh her, da hab’ ich Deine beiden Briefe in meiner Hand.

LONA.
Hm!--look here, Karsten. Johan was good enough to say that he entrusted to me the good name and reputation that he once lent to you, and also the good name that you stole from him while he was away. Johan will hold his tongue; and I can act just as I please in the matter. See, I have two letters in my hand.

嗯。卡斯腾，你听我说。约翰叫我告诉你，从前你借用过他的名誉，他在外国时候你也偷用过他的名誉，现在他把他的名誉交给我保管。约翰自己不说话。这件事我想怎么办就可以怎么办。你看，现在我手里拿的是你给他的两封信。

KONSUL BERNICK.
Du har dem! Og nu – nu vil du – allerede iaften, – kanske når fanetoget –

BERNICK.
Du hast sie! Und nun – nun willst Du – schon heut abend – vielleicht, wenn der Festzug –

BERNICK.
You have got them! And you mean now--this very evening-perhaps when the procession comes--

FRØKEN HESSEL.
Jeg kom ikke herover for at røbe dig, men for at ryste dig således op, at du frivilligt skulde tale. Det er ikke lykkedes. Så bliv da stående i løgnen. Se her; her river jeg dine to breve istykker. Tag stumperne; der har du dem. Nu er der intet, som vidner imod dig, Karsten. Nu er du tryg; vær nu også lykkelig, – om du kan.

LONA.
Ich kam nicht herüber, um Dich zu verraten, sondern um Dich so aufzurütteln, daß Du freiwillig sprechen müßtest. Das gelang mir nicht. So verharre denn in der Lüge! Sieh her, – ich reiße Deine beiden Briefe in Stücke. Nimm die Fetzen – da sind sie! Nun zeugt nichts mehr gegen Dich, Karsten; nun bist Du sicher; sei nun auch glücklich, – wenn Du kannst!

LONA.
I did not come back here to betray you, but to stir your conscience so that you should speak of your own free will. I did not succeed in doing that--so you must remain as you are, with your life founded upon a lie. Look, I am tearing your two letters in pieces. Take the wretched things--there you are. Now there is no evidence against you, Karsten. You are safe now; be happy, too--if you can.
