(giver igen).
Kvinde, her er kroningskåben,
som han bar i offerdåben! 
AGNES.
[Gives again.]
Take the crowning vesture worn,
By the child to Death’s Font borne! 
AGNES
(gibt von neuem.)
Hier sein Krönungsmantel, als wir
Ihn geopfert! 
KVINDEN.
Så! nu ser jeg der er tømt.
Den som nu var langvejs rømt!
Jeg vil svøbe ham på trappen; –
så på flugt med hele lappen!
(går.) 
THE WOMAN.
[Goes.]
So! I see there’s nothing more.
I’ll clear out without delay,
Dress my baby at the door—
Then with all my pack away! 
DAS WEIB.
So! Jetzt seh’
Ich nichts mehr. Wenn auf dem Hals mir
Nur nicht Vogt und Amtmann sind!
Ich bekleid’ ihn auf der Treppe, –
Und dann fort mit dem Geläppe!
(Ab.) 
AGNES
(står i stærk indre kamp; endelig spørger hun):
Sig mig, Brand, om det er billigt,
at der kræves mer endnu? 
AGNES.
[In violent inner conflict; at length asks.]
Is it reason, Brand, to lay
Further bidding on me? 
AGNES
(steht in starkem inneren Kampf; endlich fragt sie:)
Sag’ mir, Brand, wär’ es wohl billig,
Fordertest Du jetzt noch mehr? 
BRAND.
Sig mig først, om det var villigt,
at du gik til gavens gru? 
BRAND.
Say,
Didst thou with a glad heart go.
To thy task of giving? 
BRAND.
Sag’ mir Du erst: Schrittst Du willig
Zu dem Opfer, herb und schwer? 
AGNES.
Nej. 
AGNES.
No. 
AGNES.
Nein. 
BRAND.
Din skænk er slængt i havet.
Over dig er endnu kravet.
(vil gå.) 
BRAND.
Then thy gift is vainly will’d
And his bidding unfulfill’d.
[Going.] 
BRAND.
So war’s zum Spiel geschehen,
Und die Ford’rung bleibt bestehen.
(Wendet sich zum Gehen.) 
AGNES
(tier til han er nær ved døren, da råber hun):
Brand! 
AGNES.
[Remains silent until he is near the door, then calls.]
Brand! 
AGNES
(schweigt, bis er an der Tür ist, dann ruft sie:)
Brand! 
BRAND.
Hvad vil du? 
BRAND.
What wilt thou? 
BRAND.
Was gibt’s?
