Note on the transliteration:
The transliteration system of the BP/TLB is based on the Unicode/UTF-8 system. However, there may be difficulties with some of the letters – particularly on PC/Windows-based systems, but not so much on the Mac. We have chosen the most accepted older and traditional systems of transliteration against, e.g, Wylie for Tibetan, since with Unicode it is possible, in Sanskrit and Tibetan, etc., to represent one sound with one letter in almost all the cases (excepting Sanskrit and Tibetan aspirated letters, and Tibetan tsa, tsha, dza). We thus do not use the Wylie system which widely employs two letters for one sound (ng, ny, sh, zh etc.).
 
Important:
We ask you in particular to note the use of the ’ apostrophe and not the ' representing the avagrāha in Sanskrit, and most important the ’a-chuṅ in Tibetan. On the Mac the ’ is Alt-M.

sarvam etat sucaritaṃ dānaṃ sugatapūjanam |
kṛtaṃ kalpasahasrair1 yat pratighaḥ pratihanti tat ||1|| 
奉行諸善業 施戒而先導
供養於如來 百千劫無盡 
 
|| bskal pa stoṅ du bsags pa yi | | sbyin daṅ bde gśegs mchod la sogs |
| legs sbyad gaṅ yin de kun yaṅ | | khoṅ khro gcig gis ’joms par byed | 
All the righteousness, the charity, the worship of the Blessed, that have been wrought in thousands of aeons, are destroyed by ill-will. 
na ca dveṣasamaṃ pāpaṃ na ca kṣāntisamaṃ tapaḥ |
tasmāt kṣāntiṃ prayatnena bhāvayed vividhair nayaiḥ ||2|| 
修行於羼提 嗔罪而不立
觀種種體空 是故一心忍 
 
| źe sdaṅ lta bu’i sdig pa med | | bzod pa lta bu’i dka’ thub med |
| de bas bzod la nan tan du | | sna tshogs tshul du bsgom par bya | 
There is no guilt equal to hatred, no mortification equal to long-suffering; and therefore one should diligently practice patience in diverse ways. 
manaḥ śamaṃ na gṛhṇāti na prītisukham aśnute |
na nidrāṃ na dhṛtiṃ yāti dveṣaśalye hṛdi sthite ||3|| 
不得貪快樂 守意令平等
心有嗔惱病 無睡恒不足 
 
| źe sdaṅ zug rṅu’i sems ’chaṅ na | | yid ni źi ba ñams mi myoṅ |
| dga’ daṅ bde ba’aṅ mi ’thob la | | gñid mi ’oṅ źiṅ brtan med ’gyur | 
While the arrow of hate is in the heart, none can have a peaceful mind in equipoise, or feel the joy of kindliness, none can win sleep or calm. 
pūjayaty arthamānair yān ye ’pi cainaṃ samāśritāḥ |
te ’py enaṃ hantum icchanti svāminaṃ dveṣadurbhagam ||4|| 
彼此有施主 供給於利養
隨彼愛重心 無得生瞋惱 
 
| gaṅ dag nor daṅ bkur sti yis | | drin byin de la brten gyur pa |
| de dag kyaṅ ni sdaṅ ldan pa’i | | rje dpon de la gsod par rgol | 
They whom a master cursed with an evil spirit honours with wealth and favours, and who dwell under his protection, seek nevertheless to destroy him. 
suhṛdo ’py udvijante ’smād dadāti na ca sevyate |
saṃkṣepān nāsti tat kiṃ cit krodhano yena susthitaḥ ||5|| 
凡諸親近事 不起於憎嫌
於彼無所瞋 乃得其安樂 
 
| de yis mdza’ bśes skyo bar ’gyur | | sbyin pas bsdus kyaṅ bsten mi byed |
| mdor na khro ba ’dir gnas pa | | de ni ’ga’ yaṅ yod ma yin | 
Even his friends are in terror of him. His gifts win for him no service. In short, there is no way for a passionate man to find happiness. 
evamādīni duḥkhāni karotīty ari saṃjñayā |
yaḥ krodhaṃ hanti nirbandhāt sa sukhīha paratra ca ||6|| 
忍如是等事 若對於冤家
於瞋若能除 世世獲安樂 
 
| khro ba’i dgra yis de la sogs | | sdug bsṅal dag ni byed par ’gyur |
| gaṅ źig bsgrims te khro ’joms pa | | de ni ’di daṅ gźan du bde | 
He who stoutly fights against wrath, the enemy that brings these and other sorrows, wins joy in this world and beyond. 
aniṣṭakaraṇāj jātam iṣṭasya ca vighātanāt |
daurmanasyāśanaṃ prāpya dveṣo dṛpto2 nihanti mām ||7|| 
冤若生於心 於愛亦無喜
若飱瞋惱食 無忍善不壞 
 
| mi ’dod byas daṅ ’dod pa yi | | gegs byas pa la byuṅ gyur pa |
| yid mi bde ba’i zas rñed nas | | źe sdaṅ brtas te bdag ’joms so | 
Nourished by discontent, hatred grows swollen and destroys me; and discontent springs from doing unpleasing works or from the baffling of desire. 
tasmād vighātayiṣyāmi tasyāśanam ahaṃ ripoḥ |
yasmān na madvadhād anyat kṛtyam asyāsti vairiṇaḥ ||8|| 
彼食我大冤 於我無善利
知彼冤不食 是故忍堅牢 
 
| de ltas bdag gis dag bo de’i | | zas ni rnam par gźom par bya |
| ’di ltar bdag la gnod pa las | | dgra ’di la ni las gźan med | 
Then I will cut off the nourishment of my enemy, for this foeman’s sole purpose is to slay me. 
atyaniṣṭāgamenāpi na kṣobhyā muditā mayā |
daurmanasye ’pi nāstīṣṭaṃ3 kuśalaṃ tv avahīyate ||9|| 
凡見冤來去 歡喜而不瞋
於冤若起瞋 善利終滅盡 
 
| ci la bab kyaṅ bdag gis ni | | dga’ ba’i yid ni dkrugs mi bya |
| mi dga’ byas kyaṅ ’dod mi ’grub | | dge ba dag ni ñams par ’gyur | 
My cheerfulness shall not be disturbed, even by the most untoward events; discontent works no good, and only destroys merit. 
yady asty eva pratīkāro daurmanasyena tatra kim |
atha nāsti pratīkāro daurmanasyena tatra kim ||10|| 
忍心常若此 令瞋不得起
住忍無時節 瞋冤自不生 
 
| gal te bcos su yod na ni | | de la mi dgar ci źig yod |
| gal te bcos su med na ni | | de la mi dga’ byas ci phan | 
What profits discontent if there is a remedy; and what profits it if there is none? 
duḥkhaṃ nyakkārapāruṣyam ayaśaś cety anīpsitam |
priyāṇām ātmano vāpi śatroś ca etad viparyayāt ||11|| 
若人自保愛 不作惡口業
口業若不離 後感冤家苦 
 
| bdag gam bdag gi bśes rnams la | | sdug bsṅal brñas daṅ tshig rtsub daṅ |
| mi sñan źes bya mi ’dod de | | dgra la de las bzlog pas so | 
We shrink from sorrow, defeat, rude speech, and dishonour for ourselves and our friends, and from the opposite of these for our enemy. 
kathaṃ cil labhyate saukhyaṃ duḥkhaṃ sthitam ayatnataḥ |
duḥkhenaiva ca niḥsāraś cetas tasmād dṛḍhībhava ||12|| 
畏苦不出離 不行衆苦因
是故堅忍心 獲得諸快樂 
 
| bde ba’i rgyu ni res ’ga’ ’byuṅ | | sdug bsṅal rgyu ni śin tu maṅ |
| sdug bsṅal med par ṅes ’byuṅ med | | de bas sems khyod brtan par mnos | 
Happiness is hard to win, pain comes readily; there is no escape from life save by pain; then be firm, O my spirit! 
durgāputrakakarṇāṭā dāhacchedādivedanām |
vṛthā sahante muktyartham ahaṃ kasmāt tu kātaraḥ ||13|| 
彼訥陵誐子 邪見求解脫
刀割火燒身 無利由能忍 
 
| dka’ zlog dad daṅ ka rna pa | | bsreg daṅ bcad sogs tshor ba ni |
| don med bzod byed thar pa yi | | don du bdag go ci phyir sṅar | 
The Karṇāṭas, the “little children of Durgā,” suffer the agonies of burning and maiming in a vain hope of salvation; why then shall I be faint-hearted? 
na kiṃcid asti tad vastu yad abhyāsasya duṣkaram |
tasmān mṛduvyathābhyāsāt soḍhavyāpi mahāvyathā ||14|| 
愚癡無正見 虛受大苦惱
我以菩提心 云何苦不忍 
 
| goms ni sla bar mi ’gyur ba’i | | dṅos de gaṅ yaṅ yod ma yin |
| de bas gnod pa chuṅ goms pas | | gnod pa chen po bzod par byos | 
There is nothing which practice cannot make easy; so by practice in slight sufferings we learn to bear great pains. 
uddaṃśadaṃśamaśakakṣutpipāsādivedanām |
mahatkaṇḍvādiduḥkhaṃ ca kim anarthaṃ na paśyasi ||15|| 
蚊蚤壁虱等 常飢渴苦惱
大痒煩苦人 住忍而不見 
 
| sbrul daṅ śa sbraṅ dag daṅ ni | | bkres skom la sogs tshor ba daṅ |
| g-yan pa la sogs bcas pa yi | | don med sdug bsṅal cis ma mthoṅ | 
Flies, stinging creatures, gnats, hunger, thirst, and other like pains, fierce itch and other like miseries—lookest thou upon these as profitless? 
śītoṣṇavṛṣṭivātādhvavyādhibandhanatāḍanaiḥ |
saukumāryaṃ na kartavyam anyathā vardhate vyathā ||16|| 
寒熱幷雨風 病枷鎖捶打
被諸苦惱事 忍不求快樂 
 
| tsha graṅ char daṅ rluṅ sogs daṅ | | nad daṅ ’chiṅ daṅ rdeg sogs la |
| bdag gis bze re mi bya ste | | de ltar byas na gnod pa ’phel | 
Before cold, heat, rain, wind, travel, sickness, bondage, and blows be not tender and delicate, else thy anguish will increase. 
kecit svaśoṇitaṃ dṛṣṭvā vikramante viśeṣataḥ |
paraśoṇitam apy eke dṛṣṭvā mūrchāṃ vrajanti yat ||17|| 
殺他血流迸 堅牢心勇猛
割身自見血 怕怖而驚倒 
 
| la la bdag gis khrag mthoṅ na | | dpa’ brtan lhag par skye ’gyur yod |
| la la gźan gyi khrag mthoṅ na | | bog ciṅ brgyal bar ’gyur ba yod | 
Some there are who at the sight of their own blood become exceedingly valorous, and some at sight of others’ blood fall into faintness. 
tac cittasya dṛḍhatvena kātaratvena cāgatam |
duḥkhaduryodhanas tasmād bhaved abhibhaved vyathām ||18|| 
 
 
| de ni sems kyi ṅaṅ brtan daṅ | | sdar ma’i tshul las gyur pa yin |
| de bas gnod pa khyad bsad ciṅ | | sdug bsṅal rnams kyis mi tshugs byos | 
This comes about through firmness and feebleness of spirit; then he who is unconquerable by pain will overcome suffering. 
duḥkhe ’pi naiva cittasya prasādaṃ kṣobhayed budhaḥ |
saṃgrāmo4 hi saha kleśair yuddhe ca sulabhā vyathā ||19|| 
智者心淸淨 常懼瞋惱侵
與煩惱相持 忍心恒勇猛 
 
| mkhas pas sdug bsṅal byuṅ yaṅ ni | | sems kyi rab daṅ rñog mi bya |
| ñon moṅs rnams daṅ g-yul ’gyed la | | g-yul ’gyed tshe na gnod pa maṅ | 
Even in pain the wise man will not let the calm of his spirit be disturbed; for he is at war with the Passions, and in war suffering abounds. 
urasārātighātān ye pratīcchanto jayanty arīn |
te te vijayinaḥ śūrāḥ śeṣās tu mṛtamārakāḥ ||20|| 
蛇腹行在地 喻瞋伏於心
殺之謂無勇 殺彼得最勝 
 
| sdug bsṅal thams cad khyad bsad nas | | źe sdaṅ la sogs dgra ’joms pa |
| de dag rgyal byed dpa’ bo ste | | lhag ma ro la gsod pa’o | 
They who overcome their foes by presenting their bosoms to the enemy’s blows are “victors,” “heroes”; the rest are “slayers of the slain.”
