Note on the transliteration:
The transliteration system of the BP/TLB is based on the Unicode/UTF-8 system. However, there may be difficulties with some of the letters – particularly on PC/Windows-based systems, but not so much on the Mac. We have chosen the most accepted older and traditional systems of transliteration against, e.g, Wylie for Tibetan, since with Unicode it is possible, in Sanskrit and Tibetan, etc., to represent one sound with one letter in almost all the cases (excepting Sanskrit and Tibetan aspirated letters, and Tibetan tsa, tsha, dza). We thus do not use the Wylie system which widely employs two letters for one sound (ng, ny, sh, zh etc.).
 
Important:
We ask you in particular to note the use of the ’ apostrophe and not the ' representing the avagrāha in Sanskrit, and most important the ’a-chuṅ in Tibetan. On the Mac the ’ is Alt-M.

釋曰。餘十種界(21)具善惡無記性。  此中七識界。與無貪等相應(22)是善性。  若與貪等相應是惡性。所餘是無記(23)性。  法界與無貪等善相應。及發起擇滅。皆是(24)善性。  與貪等惡相應。及發起是惡性。  所餘(25)是無記性。  色界聲界善惡心發起。是善惡性。(26)身口業所攝故。  若異此是無記性。説諸界善(27)等性已。 
其餘十界通善等三。  謂七心界(19)與無貪等相應名善。  貪等相應名爲不善。(20)餘名無記。  法界若是無貪等性相應等起擇(21)滅名善。  若貪等性相應等起名爲不善。  餘(22)名無記。  色界聲界若善不善心力等起身語(23)表攝。是善不善。  餘是無記。已説善等。

(3)釋曰。於色界中無香味。  此二是段食類故。由(4)離欲段食。於彼受生故。  由無此塵。鼻舌二識(5)亦不得生。  無縁縁故。  若爾於彼不應立有觸(6)界。觸亦是段食類故。  實爾。若觸非段食類。(7)於彼可有。若爾香味亦應然。  是義不然。何以(8)故。離食無別用香味如觸。觸有別用。謂能成(9)根。能爲依持。及成衣服等故。  彼處衆生離(10)欲段食。是故香味無用。觸則不爾。  有餘師説。  (11)依止定及三摩跋提。或見色。聞聲  與輕安相(12)應。有觸勝類能益彼身。  是故此三。於定生處(13)得相隨生。香味不爾。  若爾於彼不應有鼻舌(14)二根。是義不然。何以故。  此二有用。  若離此(15)二身。則醜陋。無二根故。又言説不成。  若用(16)如此。但須鼻舌依止。爲莊嚴身。及以言説。(17)不須鼻舌二根。是義不然。  無但依止非根。如(18)男根依止於彼。  此不生可然。以無用故。  鼻舌(19)依止。於彼有用。  是故若離根於彼此生則應(20)理。  若有諸根無用亦生。如於胎中定死衆生。  (21)無用可生。非無因可生。  此諸根從何因生。於(22)根有愛。所有勝業。  若人離欲。於塵於根決定(23)離欲。  彼人若已離欲香味二塵。鼻舌二根於(24)彼不應得生。  若生鼻舌二根。男根云何不生。(25)由生醜陋故。  若根藏如象王陰。云何醜陋。  不(26)必由有用故生。云何生。  必由因故生。雖復(27)醜陋。若有因必應生。  因既無此不生。彼云何(28)生是義不然。與經相違故。  經言彼人具足根(29)無闕少。  是義不然。隨彼所有根説無闕少。有(168a1)何相違。  若不爾。於彼亦應有男根。  彼説如此。(2)於彼有鼻舌二根。但無香味。彼由内依門。(3)於六根生貪愛。不由外塵門。  於男根生愛。必(4)由婬觸門起。是故此義得成。故於色界有十(5)四界。 
除香味者  段食性故。離段食欲方(2)得生彼。  除鼻舌識  無所縁故  若爾觸界於(3)彼應無。如香味境段食性故。  彼所有觸非(4)段食性。若爾香味類亦應然。  香味離食無(5)別受用。觸有別用持根衣等。  彼離食欲香(6)味無用。有根衣等故觸非無。  有餘師説。  住(7)此依彼靜慮等至見色聞聲。  輕安倶起有(8)殊勝觸攝益於身。  是故此三生彼靜慮猶(9)相隨逐。香味不爾。故在彼無。  若爾鼻舌彼(10)應非有。如香味境彼無用故。  不爾二根於(11)彼有用。  謂起言説及莊嚴身。  若爲嚴身及(12)起説用但須依處。何用二根。  如無男根亦(13)無依處。二根無者依處亦無。  於彼可無男(14)根依處。彼無用故。  鼻舌依處彼有用故。  離(15)根應有。  有雖無用而有根生。  如處胞胎(16)定當死者。有雖無用而非無因。  彼從何(17)因得有根起。於根有愛發殊勝業。  若離(18)境愛於根定然。彼離境貪  應無鼻舌。  或應(19)許彼男根亦生。若謂不生由醜陋者。  陰藏(20)隱密何容醜陋。  又諸根生非由有用。  若有(21)因力無用亦生。男根於彼雖爲醜陋。設許(22)有因於彼應起。  男根非有鼻舌應無。若爾(23)便違契經所説。  彼無支缺不減諸根。  隨彼(24)諸根應可有者。説爲不減。何所相違。  若不(25)許然男根應有。  如是説者鼻舌二根於彼(26)非無。但無香味。以六根愛依内身生非(27)依境界而得現起。  其男根愛依婬觸生。婬(28)觸彼無。男根非有。故於色界十八界中。唯(29)十四種理得成立。
