Note on the transliteration:
The transliteration system of the BP/TLB is based on the Unicode/UTF-8 system. However, there may be difficulties with some of the letters – particularly on PC/Windows-based systems, but not so much on the Mac. We have chosen the most accepted older and traditional systems of transliteration against, e.g, Wylie for Tibetan, since with Unicode it is possible, in Sanskrit and Tibetan, etc., to represent one sound with one letter in almost all the cases (excepting Sanskrit and Tibetan aspirated letters, and Tibetan tsa, tsha, dza). We thus do not use the Wylie system which widely employs two letters for one sound (ng, ny, sh, zh etc.).
 
Important:
We ask you in particular to note the use of the ’ apostrophe and not the ' representing the avagrāha in Sanskrit, and most important the ’a-chuṅ in Tibetan. On the Mac the ’ is Alt-M.

dvitīye dhyāne catvāryaṅgāni |  adhyātmasaṃprasādaḥ prītiḥ sukhaṃ cittekāgratā ca | 
   
tṛtīye pañca tūpekṣā smṛtiḥ prajñā sukhaṃ sthitiḥ | 
 
tṛtīye tu dhyāne pañcāṅgāni | upekṣā smṛtiḥ saṃprajñānaṃ sukhaṃ smādhiś ca |  samādhiparyāyo hi sthitiḥ | “samyaksamādhiḥ katamaḥ |  yā cittasya sthitir iti sūtre vacanāt |

caturthaṃ dhyānamantyam | tatra catvāryaṅgāni |  aduḥkhāsukhā vedanā upekṣāpariśuddhiḥ smṛtipariśuddhiḥ samādhiś ca |  tānyetānyaṣṭādaśa dhyānāṅgāni bhavanti |  prathamatṛtīyayoḥ pañcāṅgatvāt | dvitīyacaturthayoś caturaṅgatvāt |  nāmata evam | 
         
dravyato daśa caikaṃ ca 
 
dravyata etānyekādaśa bhavanti | prāthamadhyānikāni pañca |  dvitīye ’dhyātmasaṃprasādo vardhate |  tṛtīye upekṣāsmṛtisaṃprajñānasukhāni | caturthe ’duḥkhāsukhā vedaneti |  ata evocyate yānyaṅgāni prathame dhyāne dvitīye ’pi tānīti catuṣkoṭikam |  prathamā koṭirvitarkavicārau |  dvitīyā adhyātmasaṃprasādaḥ |  tṛtīyā prītiḥ sukhaṃ cittaikāgratā ca |  caturthī koṭiruktanirmuktā dharmā iti |  evaṃ sarvāṇi dhyānāṅgāni parasparaṃ yojyāni |  kasmāt | tṛtīye dhyāne sukhaṃ dravyāntaram ucyate |  yasmāt tadvedanāsukhaṃ dhyānayostu

pratham advitīyayos tu dhyānayoḥ prasrabdhisukham ity uktam |  iha prasrabdhisukhaṃ tatra vedanāsukham iti kuta etat |  dvayor dhyānasamāpattyoḥ sukhendriyāyogāt |  na hi tattayoḥ kāyikaṃ yujyate | samāpannasya vijñānakāyābhāvāt |  nāpi caitasikaṃ prītivacanāt |  prītir hi saumanasyam |  na ca sukhasaumanasyayoryaugapadyamasti |  na cāpi tayoḥ paryāyeṇa dhyāne vṛttiryuktā pañcāṅgavacanāditi |  apare punar āhuḥ |  nāsty eva caitasikaṃ sukhendriyaṃ triṣv api hi dhyāneṣu |  kāyikameva sukhamaṅgaṃ vyavasthāpitam iti |  yat tarhi sutra uktaṃ “sukhendriyaṃ katamat |  yatsukhavedanīyena sparśena spṛṣṭasyotpadyate kāyikaṃ caitasikaṃ sātaṃ veditaṃ vedanāgatamidam ucyate sukhendriyam ” iti |  adhyāropita eṣa pāṭhaḥ |  kena_ api sarvanikāyāntareṣu kāyikamityeva pāṭhāt |  “sukhaṃ ca kāyena pratisaṃvedayata” iti svaśabdena vacanāc ca |  manaskāyeneticet | evam uktvā ko guṇaḥ |  caturthe dhyāne prasrabdhibhūyastve ’pi sukhāvacanāc ca |  sukhavedanānukūlā prasrabdhiḥ sukham iti cet |  tṛtīye prasrabdhisukhāvacanaṃ kasmāt | upekṣopahatatvād iti cet |  na upekṣayaiva tadvṛddhiḥ |  pūrvikābhyastādviśeṣāt |  “yasminsamaye āryaśrāvakaḥ pravivekajāṃ prītiṃ kāyena sākṣātkṛtvopasaṃpadya viharatīty” atra sūtre prasrabdhisukhayoḥ pṛthagvacanānna prasrabdhir eva sukham |  samāpannasya katham kāyavijñānam iti cet |  samādhiviśeṣajena prasrabdhisaṃjñakena sukhavedanīyena vāyunā kāyasphuraṇāt |  bahirvikṣepāssamādhibraṃśa iti cet |  na |  samādhijasyāntaḥkāyasaṃbhūtasya kāyasukhasya samādhyanukūlatvāt |  kāyavijñā nakāle vyutthitaḥ syād iti cet |  na | ata eva |  kāmāvacareṇa kāyendriyeṇa rūpāvacaraspraṣṭavyavijñānānutpattir iti cet |  na | prasrabdhivijñānasyotpatteḥ |  anāsrave api spraṣṭavyakāyavijñāne syāt ām |  mā bhūtkiñcidaṅgaṃ sāsravaṃ kiñcidanāsravam iti cet |  kāyikaprasrabdhivodhyaṅga vacanāt | iṣṭe bodhyaṅgānukūlatvād iti cet |  anāsravatvamapyevam | “sāsravā dharmāḥ katame |  cakṣuryāvadeva spraṣṭavyam” ity asya sūtrasya virodhād iti cet |  na | anyaspraṣṭavya kāyavijñānābhisaṃdhivacanāt |  na cānāsrave kiñcidaṅgaṃ sāsravaṃ kicidanāsravaṃ syād iti cet |  ayaugapadyātko doṣaḥ sukhaprītyasamavadhānānna pañcāṅgaṃ syād iti cet |  na saṃbhavaṃ pratyupadeśāndvitarkavicāravat |  sādhyam iti cet |  siddhaṃ cittasyaudārikasūkṣmatayor virodhāt doṣāvacanāc ca |  tasmād yānyeva prathamadhyāne pañcāṅgāni teṣāṃ dvitricaturaṅgāpakarṣeṇa dvitīyādidhyānavyavasthānam |  ata eva ca prathame dhyāne pañcānām aṅgatvam uktam |  tadapakarṣeṇottaradhyānavyavasthāpanāt | na tu saṃjñādīnām aṅgatvam uktam |  kimartha vā pañcānām evāṅgatvam uktam | upakārakatvād iti cet | na |  vitarkavicārābhyāṃ smṛtiprajñayor apakārakataratvāt |  asty eṣa ekeṣāṃ vādaḥ |  naiva tu pūrvācāryā evaṃ nirdiśanti sma yāvantaḥ prajñāntam |  tasmād vicāryam etat |  adhyātmasaṃprasādo nāma ka eṣa dharmaḥ |  vitarkavicārakṣobhavirahāt praśāntavāhitā saṃtater adhyātmasaṃprasādaḥ |  sormikeva hi nadī vitarkavicārakṣobhitā saṃtatir aprasannā vartate iti |  na tarhi sa dravyāntaram iti kathaṃ dravyata ekādaśāṅgāni bhavanti |  tasmāt tarhi

tasya hi dvitīyadhyānalātsamāhibhūminihsaraṇe saṃpratyaya utpadyate |  so ’tradhyātmasaṃprasāda iti |  naiva hi vitarkavicārasamādhayo nāpy adhātmasaṃprasādo dravyāntarāṇītyapare |  kathamasati dravyāntaratve caitasikatvaṃ siddhyati |  avasthāviseso hi nāma cetasaścetasiko bhavati |  natveṣa śastrasiddhāntaḥ | yad uktaṃ “prītirhi saumanasyam” iti |  katham idaṃ gamyate | kimanyat bhavatu |  yathecchanti nikāyāntarīyāḥ dharmāntarameva caitasikaṃ prītiḥ  saumanasyaṃ tu triṣv api dhyāneṣu sukham iti |  yathecchanti nikāyāntarīyāḥ dharmāntarameva caitasikaṃ prītiḥ saumanasyaṃ tu triṣv api dhyānesu sukham iti |  na vai sukhaṃ dhyāneṣu saumanasyaṃ yujyate |

uktaṃ hi bhagavatā aviparītakasūtre tṛtīyaṃ dhyānamuktvā “atrāsyotpannaṃ saumanasyendriyam apariśeṣaṃ nirudhyata iti |  caturthe ca dhyāne sukhendriyaṃ nirudhyata” ity uktam |  punaś coktaṃ “sukhasya ca prahāṇāt duḥkhasya ca prahāṇāt pūrvam eva ca saumanasyadaurmanasyayor astaṅgamād” ity ato ’pi na tṛtīye dhyāne saumanasyendriyam asti |  tasmāt prītir eva saumansyaṃ na sukham | 
       
kiṃ punaḥ kliṣṭeṣv api dhyāneṣu yathā vihitāny aṅgāni bhavanti |  na hi kiṃ teṣu na vidyate | 
   
kliṣṭeṣv asatprītisukhaṃ prasādaḥ saṃpradhīḥ smṛṭiḥ |
upekṣāsmṛtiśuddhiś ca
 
 
prathame dhyāne vivekajaṃ prītisukhaṃ nāsti | kleśāviviktatvāt |  dvitīye dhyāne ’dhyātmasaṃprasādo nāsti |  kleśāvilatvāt | tṛtīye smṛtisaṃprajanyaṃ nāsti |  kliṣṭasukhasaṃbrhamitatvāt | ccaturthe upekṣāsmṛtipariśuddhirnāsti | kleśamalinatvāt |  evaṃ tāvat kecidāhuḥ | 
         
kecit prasrabdhyupekṣaṇe || 8.10 || 
 
kecitpunaḥ prathamadvitīyayoḥ kliṣṭayoḥ prasrabdhirnāsti |  tṛtīyacaturthayorupekṣā nāsti |  kuśalalmahābhūmikatvād anayoriti |  trīṇi ca dhyānāni señjitāni uktāni bhagavatā |  sāpakṣālatvāt |
