Odin tog Hovedet, indsmurte det i Urter, for at det ei skulde raadne og goel Galder derover.1 Derved gav han det den Evne, at det talede med ham og aabenbarede mange Hemmeligheder.
1. Galder, en Troldomssang, som brugtes af Troldomskonstnere, af „gala“ gale eller synge. Dette var et mildere Troldomsvæsen og ligesom en Fortryllelse. En anden, mere forhadt og med skadeligere Konster forbunden Troldom var Seid, hvorved Urter kogtes under flere, tildeels rædsomme Ceremonier. Disse Troldmænd forfulgtes derfor mere end hine. Ved begge Slags Troldom blev Nornernes Sang afsjungen.
