ELLIDA.
Valget kan du aldrig hindre. Hverken du eller nogen anden. Du kan forbyde mig at rejse med ham, – følge ham, – ifald jeg vælger det. Du kan holde mig tilbage her med magt. Imod min vilje. Det kan du. Men at jeg vælger, – vælger inderst inde i mit sind, – vælger ham og ikke dig, – ifald jeg vil og må vælge således, – det kan du ikke hindre.

ELLIDA.
You can never prevent the choice, neither you nor anyone. You can forbid me to go away with him--to follow him--in case I should choose to do that. You can keep me here by force--against my will. That you can do. But that I should choose, choose from my very soul--choose him, and not you--in case I would and did choose thus--this you cannot prevent.

Ezt a választást nem akadályozhatod meg. Sem te, sem más. Megtilthatod, hogy vele menjek, hogy őt kövessem, ha ezt választanám. Itt tarthatsz erőszakkal. Akaratom ellenére. Ezt megteheted. De azt, hogy döntsek... hogy a lelkem mélyén én döntsek... és őt válasszam, nem pedig téged, ha így kell és ha így akarom, azt nem akadályozhatod meg semmiképpen.
