“However, a bodhisattva should not give a gift while fixing on an object, Subhūti.
He should not give a gift while fixing on anything.
He should not give a gift while fixing on physical forms.
He should not give a gift while fixing on sounds, smells, tastes or objects of touch, or on dharmas.
For this is the way, Subhūti, a bodhisattva should give a gift, so that he does not fix on the idea of the distinctive features (of any object).
Why is that? Subhūti, it is not easy to take the measure of the quantity of merit, Subhūti, of the bodhisattva who gives a gift without fixation.
