DEN FREMMEDE.
Tænk altså nøje over, hvad du gør. Farvel. (går hen og stiger over gærdet, standser og siger:) Ja, Ellida, – hold dig så rejsefærdig til imorgen nat. For da kommer jeg her og henter dig.
(han går langsomt og rolig henad fodstien ud til højre.)

THE STRANGER.
So think carefully what you do. Goodbye! (He goes to the fence and climbs over it, stands still, and says.) Yes, Ellida; be ready for the journey tomorrow night. For then I shall come and fetch you.
(He goes slowly and calmly down the footpath to the right.)

Gondold meg hát jól, hogy mit teszel. Isten veled. (Átlép a sövényen, majd megáll, és úgy szólal meg újra) Tehát légy útra készen holnap éjjel, Ellida. Eljövök, és magammal viszlek. (Lassan, nyugodtan halad a gyalogösvény mentén, majd jobbra elmegy)
