KROLL.
Og så tar han Dem til sig, – straks da Deres mor var død. Han behandler Dem hårdt. Og dog blir De hos ham. De véd, at han ikke vil efterlade Dem en eneste skilling. De fik jo bare en kasse bøger. Og dog holder De ud hos ham. Bærer over med ham. Plejer ham lige til det sidste. 
KROLL.
Und da nimmt er Sie zu sich, – gleich, nach dem Tode Ihrer Mutter. Er behandelt Sie hart. Und doch bleiben Sie bei ihm. Sie wissen, daß er Ihnen nicht einen Pfennig hinterlassen wird. Sie haben ja auch nur eine Kiste Bücher bekommen. Und doch halten Sie bei ihm aus. Ertragen seine Launen. Pflegen ihn bis zum letzten Augenblick. 
KROLL.
And then he takes you to live with him, immediately upon your mother’s death. He treats you harshly, and yet you stay with him. You know that he will not leave you a single penny--as a matter of fact you only got a box of books--and yet you endure living with him, put up with his behaviour, and nurse him to the end.

REBEKKA
am Tisch stehend, blickt ihn höhnisch an.
Und dafür, daß ich dies alles getan, – haben Sie die Erklärung, es hafte an meiner Geburt etwas Unsittliches – etwas Verbrecherisches! 
REBECCA
(comes to the table and looks at him scornfully).
And my doing all that makes it clear to you that there was something immoral--something criminal about my birth!

KROLL.
Hvad De gjorde for ham, udleder jeg af et uvilkårligt datterligt instinkt. Hele Deres færd for resten holder jeg for et udslag af Deres oprindelse. 
KROLL.
Was Sie für ihn getan haben, das leite ich aus dem unwillkürlichen Instinkt der Tochter her. Ihr ganzes übriges Auftreten halte ich für ein natürliches Ergebnis Ihrer Herkunft. 
KROLL.
What you did for him, I attributed to an unconscious filial instinct. And, as far as the rest of it goes, I consider that the whole of your conduct has been the outcome of your origin.

我认为你那么爱护维斯特大夫是出于天性的孝心。我确实相信你的出身决定了你的一切行为。 
REBEKKA
(heftigt).
Men der er ikke et sandt ord i alt, hvad De siger! Og det kan jeg bevise! For doktor West var ikke kommen til Finmarken, da jeg blev født. 
REBEKKA
heftig.
Es ist doch kein wahres Wort an allem, was Sie sagen! Das kann ich beweisen! Denn Doktor West war noch gar nicht in Finmarken, als ich geboren wurde. 
REBECCA
(hotly).
But there is not a single word of truth in what you say! And I can prove it! Dr. West had not come to Finmark when I was born.

(生气)
你的话没有一个字靠得住！我有证据。维斯特大夫到芬马克来的时候，我已经出世了。 
KROLL.
Undskyld, – frøken. Han kom der op året i forvejen. Det har jeg undersøgt. 
KROLL.
Entschuldigen Sie, – Fräulein. Er kam das Jahr vorher dorthin. Das habe ich festgestellt. 
KROLL.
Excuse me, Miss West. He went there a year before you were born. I have ascertained that. 
克罗尔
维斯特小姐，恐怕你记错了吧。他是在你出世前一年在那儿住下的。这一点我记得很清楚。 
REBEKKA.
De tar fejl, siger jeg! De tar aldeles fejl! 
REBEKKA.
Sie irren sich, sage ich! Sie irren sich vollständig! 
REBECCA.
You are mistaken, I tell you! You are absolutely mistaken! 
吕贝克
我告诉你，是你记错了！你完全记错了。 
KROLL.
De sa’ her i forgårs, at De var ni og tyve år. Gik i det tredivte. 
KROLL.
Vorgestern haben Sie an dieser Stelle gesagt, Sie wären neunundzwanzig Jahre. Sie gingen in das dreißigste. 
KROLL.
You said here, the day before yesterday, that you were twenty-nine--going on for thirty. 
克罗尔
前天你亲口告诉过我，你现在已经过了二十九岁——不到三十岁。 
REBEKKA.
Så? Sa’ jeg det? 
REBEKKA.
So? Habe ich das gesagt? 
REBECCA.
Really? Did I say that? 
吕贝克
是吗！我真那么说过吗？ 
KROLL.
Ja, De gjorde. Og deraf kan jeg regne ud – 
KROLL.
Ja, das haben Sie. Und also kann ich ausrechnen – 
KROLL.
Yes, you did. And from that I can calculate--
