According to Ehret1995#431, the vb. represents the basic, unextended form of a bi-consonantal »pre-Proto-Semitic« (pPS, i.e. preSem) root *ḲṬ- ‘to cut’, from AfrAs *k'âť‑ ‘to cut’.
