XXXVI Drap Yngvaʀs konongs. (23)
XXXII.

32.
32.
32. [Of Yngvar's Fall]
Yngvaʀ hét ſonr Eyſteins konongs er þa (24) var konongr yfir Sviavellde.  hann var her-(25)-maðr micill. oc var opt a herſcipom. þ at (26) þa var aðr Suíariki mioc herſcátt (27) bæðe af dǫnom oc ꜹſtrvegs mǫnnom (28) .  Yngvaʀ konongr gerþi frið v Dani. toc (52,1) þa at heria ủm ꜹſtrvego.

King Eystein's son was called Yngvar, who thereafter became king in Sweden.  He was a great warrior and was often out in his warships, for Sweden had been much harried both by Danes and (24) by men from the Baltic.  He made peace with the Danes and took to harrying in the Baltic.
A eino (2) ſumre hafðe hann her ủti oc for til Eist-(3)-landz, oc heriaðe þar ủm ſủmarit (4) ſem hét at Steini.  þa comủ Ei-(5)-ſtr ofan með mikiɴ her oc atto (6) þeirosto. var þa Land herriɴ ſva (7) driủgr at Suíar fengo eigi mót-(8)-ſtoðo,  fell þa Yngvaʀ konongr eɴ lið (9) hans flyðe. hann er heygðr þar v ſia (10) ſialfan. þat er á aþalſiſlo.  Foro (11) Suiar heim eptir oſigr þeɴa.
Á einu sumri hafði hann her úti ok fór til Eistlands ok herjaði þar um sumarit, sem hét at Steini.  Þá kómu Eistr ofan með mikinn her, ok áttu þeir orrostu.

One summer, he brought out his army, went to Estland, and harried there during the summer in a spot called Stein.  Then came down the Estland men with a mighty army and they held battle; the army of the Estland men was so strong that the Swedes could not withstand it.  King Yngvar fell and his folk fled; he was buried in a howe by the sea in Adalsysla.  After that defeat the Swedes went home.
Sva (12) ſegir Þioðólfr (13)
Svá segir Þjóðólfr:

So segjer Tjodolv:
Saa siger Tjodolv:
Thus says Tjodolv:
Þat ſtock vpp (14)

23. Þat stǫkk upp,
at Yngvari (62)
Sýslu kind
of sóit hafði
ok ljóshǫmum
við lagar hjarta
herr eistneskr
at hilmi vá,
ok austmarr
jǫfri fǫllnum
Gymis ljóð
at gamni kveðr.

Kunnugt var de,
at konung Yngvar
for Sysla-folke
stupa laut.
Heren fraa Estland
ved havsens hjarta
den ljosleitte hovdingen
i hel drap.
Auster-have
havgudens kvæde
syng ved haugen
aat sviakongen.
Og det kom,
at Yngvar var
af Syslas folk
slaaet ihjel,
og hvidhaaret høvding
ved havets hjerte
havde estnisk
hær dræbt,
Nu Østerhavet
for svenske ædling
søgudens sang
synger til gammen.
And it came about
That Yngvar was
By the folk of Sysla
Slain dead,
And the hoary chief,
Near the rocky heart of the sea,
Was killed
By the Estland men's army.
And now the Baltic waves
Sang songs, for the sport
Of the sea god,
Over the Swedish prince.
