Rolland2014a thinks the etymon is Grk sundókos ‘recipient, container’, from prefix sun‑ ‘together’ + déχ-omai ‘to receive, take, accept’, from IE *dek‑ ‘dto.’ (cf. also ↗funduq < Grk pan-doχ-eîon); reimported into Grk as sánduks ‘case, suitcase’ (classified by Beekes2010 simply as »Pre-Greek«).
